    Children's Dentistry

At Millpond Family Dental we take special joy in providing dental care for the entire family. We want children in particular to have a great experience at the dentist so that they can develop a healthy understanding of dental care and not develop a fear of the dentist. We tailor our procedures specifically for children. We have private exam rooms where they can feel secure. We also have fun music and TVs on the ceiling that can help distract with cartoons and movies. We also have warm blankets and stuffed animals available if needed. From start to finish, our primary goal is to provide a positive and comfortable experience for your child and to foster a lifelong love of good oral health. WHEN SHOULD I FIRST BRING MY CHILD TO THE DENTIST? The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists recommends that a child should visit the dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Regular visits are important for maintaining good oral health. The first few visits are very low pressure and usually involve working with the child with a regular toothbrush to help them gain confidence in the experience. We always evaluate for any dental needs and gradually introduce more into each appointment as your child is ready. WHAT TYPE OF FILLINGS DO YOU USE FOR KIDS? We do not use any of the older style silver mercury fillings in our practice. All of our fillings are non BPA tooth colored composite resins. In some instances very large cavities on baby teeth may require a special stainless steel covering called a crown. This is a strong and simple way to restore large holes in baby teeth. These crowns cover the baby tooth and protect it until the tooth falls out in its own time. The crown will not need to be removed and will come out with the baby tooth. In every case we will talk through treatment options and recommendations with you the parent. WHAT OTHER SERVICES ARE IMPORTANT FOR KIDS? In addition to guiding your children on good hygiene habits and treating decay we are also evaluating your children for many other factors that often go unlooked until later in life. These include such things as enlarged or abnormal tonsils, breathing issues, and skeletal misalignment. Dental markers are also frequently the first sign of systemic syndromes or genetic conditions. Frequent dental checkups are a key part of maintaining overall health and wellness for your growing child. Tooth Extractions

At Millpond Family Dental we perform a wide variety of tooth extraction procedures. From helping remove stubborn baby teeth to make room for their permanent replacements, to complex wisdom tooth removal, and everything in between. Our team has completed advanced training in gentle and conservative tooth removal procedures and has the skills to make your procedure as quick and straightforward as possible. To remove a tooth, we will numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic. This will reduce any pain and allow you to remain comfortable throughout the procedure. If needed, you can also be given an oral sedative to promote further relaxation. We are also fully equipped with nitrous oxide sedation, or laughing gas, for patients who desire this during a procedure. For some circumstances we are even able to have a specialist come into the office to provide sedation services. WHEN SHOULD YOU HAVE A TOOTH EXTRACTED? FAQS WHEN SHOULD A TOOTH BE REMOVED? Often, if a tooth has severely decayed or is infected, we may recommend removing it. Then, that tooth can be replaced with a restoration like a bridge or a dental implant. Removing infected teeth is important because the infection can spread to other parts of the body, including the heart and brain. Teeth can also commonly crack or split necessitating removal. SHOULD I BE SEDATED FOR EXTRACTIONS? At Millpond Family Dental we have the proper training and equipment to make most extractions fast and straightforward. In these situations, simply numbing the tooth and affected area is sufficient to make for a painless and easy procedure. However, for some situations we may recommend the use of laughing gas or conscious sedation, both of which can be provided in office. DO WISDOM TEETH NEED TO BE EXTRACTED? Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt from your gums and some people don’t have enough room in their mouths to accommodate these extra molars. As a result, wisdom teeth can become impacted, which means they are stuck in the gums or jawbone. This is a case-by-case basis and many people have adequate space where they have no need to remove their wisdom teeth. We are equipped with all of the proper radiographic equipment to fully analyze your case and give you the information to help you make the best decision. Root Canals

At Millpond Family Dental we want to make life as simple as possible for our patients and this includes not sending them all over town for every different type of procedure. Our experienced team is set up to provide root canal therapy in most situations. A root canal treatment removes the infected dental pulp from a tooth, which is causing pain. At Millpond Family Dental, we perform root canals and then restore the tooth with a dental crown or filling. This restorative dental procedure is usually performed to prevent an infection from spreading to other parts of the mouth while keeping the infected tooth from being extracted. FAQS WHEN IS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT NEEDED? A root canal is necessary when the pulp of the tooth becomes inflamed or infected when decay or physical trauma has caused damage to the tooth and bacteria seeped into the root canal. When left untreated, the infection could spread and lead to an abscess. THE ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE During a root canal procedure, we will numb the area around the tooth with a local anesthetic. Then, drill a small hole in the tooth to remove the infected pulp. The hole is then filled with a rubber-like material, called gutta-percha, which helps prevent future infections. Finally, the tooth is sealed. Once complete the tooth should look and feel like a normal tooth. ARE ROOT CANAL PROCEDURES PAINFUL? A root canal procedure is no more uncomfortable than a routine dental filling. After a local anesthetic is administered, our dentist will widen the root canal. At this point, the dentist will remove any dead or diseased tissue in the canal. The dentist will then clean the canal and seal it to prevent further infection. To learn more about the advantages of root canal therapy, contact Millpond Family Dental at 3490 Kildaire Farm RD STE. 170, Cary, NC 27518, or call Dentist in Cary, NC [https://www.millponddentist.com/] at (984) 465-1544.

    Invisalign

The Invisalign treatment consists of clear aligners that are worn over the teeth. Each aligner shifts the teeth into position little by little until they are eventually straightened. At Millpond Family Dental, Invisalign is used to treat many orthodontic concerns such as crooked teeth, gaps, or bite issues. Invisalign uses a series of custom-fitted aligners to gradually move teeth into their optimal position. We are an Invisalign silver certified office and stay at the cutting edge of tooth movement options through our unique partnership with Invisalign. Our doctors truly love the functional and aesthetic benefits of aligning teeth and take numerous continuing education courses each year to stay abreast of the latest trends and technology. FAQS WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF INVISALIGN?  Your Invisalign aligners are designed to correct more than just your appearance. The aligners are also designed using state-of-the-art technology to shift your teeth into proper alignment, which can benefit your dental health.  In addition to straightening your teeth, your Invisalign aligners may also prevent or reduce your risk for tooth decay and gum disease as well as improve issues related to malignment such as clenching, griding, or lockjaw. Invisalign clear aligners are easy to remove, making them extremely convenient for eating and oral hygiene. Simply take them off when eating, brushing, and flossing. This allows you to continue your normal activities without too much interruption. Invisalign aligners are also clear, so they blend in with your teeth and won’t stand out while you’re wearing them. Invisalign can tyically provide faster results and a cheaper alternative to traditional metal braces. WHAT TYPES OF DENTAL ISSUES CAN INVISALIGN CORRECT? GAPS BETWEEN TEETH Invisalign is ideal for correcting minor spacing issues, such as gaps between teeth. Trays are custom-made to fit each patient’s mouth, designed to shift position and alignment of the teeth to their proper place and closing any gaps such misalignment may create.  OVERBITE Overbites occur when your upper teeth overlap your lower teeth. Often genetic but can also be caused by thumb sucking and pacifier use in childhood, overbites can cause difficulty with chewing, talking, and jaw pain. Invisalign effectively treats and corrects an overbite by gradually shifting your teeth.  UNDERBITE An underbite is caused when your upper teeth fall too far past your lower teeth. This can cause problems with chewing, talking, and oral health. Invisalign’s gradual shifting of the teeth’s positions can correct an underbite.  CROSSBITE A crossbite occurs when the teeth in the upper jaw overlap the teeth in the lower jaw. This can cause the teeth to not align correctly, which can lead to other problems as time goes by. Invisalign can correct a crossbite by gradually moving the teeth into alignment through a series of aligners. MISALIGNED TEETH If you have gapped, crowded, or misaligned teeth, Invisalign could be the treatment you need. Invisalign clear aligners are designed to gradually shift your teeth into their desired position. Once your teeth are in their proper alignment, you will be able to keep your smile healthy and looking its best. DEEP BITE A deep bite can create several problems for patients. A deep bite can lead to the appearance of a “gummy” smile, where the gums appear to cover too much of the teeth. The front teeth can collapse inwards as well, causing aesthetic issues. Additionally, a deep bite can cause the teeth to wear down prematurely. Visit Millpond Family Dental at 3490 Kildaire Farm Rd STE. 170, Cary, NC 27518, or call Dentist in Cary, NC at (984) 465-1544 to learn how Invisalign allows you to carry on your regular life without anybody noticing your orthodontic treatment.

    Smile Restorations

A smile restoration refers to any procedure that improves the aesthetics or function of your smile. At Millpond Family Dental, common aesthetic treatments include dental bonding, porcelain veneers, and teeth whitening. These treatments are effective for a variety of dental issues, including small chips in the teeth, uneven spacing and gum lines, or stains and discolorations on the smile. More functional treatments include dental fillings, crowns, and implants. We utilize the latest technology and top quality materials to ensure that we provide beautiful and long lasting restorations for years of trouble free use. FAQS WHEN IS A SMILE RESTORATION RECOMMENDED? Smiles can be restored for several reasons. Some patients need to replace old, worn-down restorations while others may have had trauma to the tooth, such as from a sports injury or car accident. Still others may feel like they’ve lost part of their smile, such as when one or more teeth have been extracted. DO YOU USE SILVER FILLINGS? At Millpond Family Dental we do not use any of the older stye alamgam metal fillings. All of our fillings are tooth colored BPA free composite resins. We are fully equipped with all EPA certified amalgam seperation systems and high volume evacuation to safely removed older amalgam fillings when necessary. WHAT ARE SOME TYPES OF RESTORATIONS? DENTAL VENEERS  When the appearance of your smile is hurting your confidence, there are some cosmetic treatments that can help you regain that confidence. One common treatment used for smile restoration is dental veneers. Veneers are discreet shells that fit over your existing teeth. They are custom-made for each patient, which makes them comfortable. Dental veneers are bonded to the front of the teeth. They are great for hiding discolored, stained, or crooked teeth. The veneers are colored to match the rest of the teeth and create a uniform appearance. The veneers are also stain-resistant, so you won’t have to worry about them becoming discolored over time. DENTAL BONDING Dental bonding is a cost-effective and simple procedure. This common dental procedure is ideal for repairing small chips, cracks, or teeth that have slight staining. Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored resin material to repair the tooth. We will place the resin material on the tooth, mold it to the desired shape, and harden it with a special curing light. Once the bonding is set, your dentist will further shape it, if needed, so it blends in with the rest of your smile.  DENTAL CROWNS If your teeth have become discolored, cracked, or chipped, or you have a tooth that is too short or too long, you could benefit from a dental crown. Dental crowns are made to look like natural teeth as they cover the whole problematic tooth, so no one will be able to tell that you have one.  DENTAL BRIDGES If you are missing several teeth, you may not be able to get dental implants because you might not have enough healthy bone mass to support implants. Instead, a dental bridge could be recommended. A bridge is a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) that is fixed in place by anchoring it to the teeth on either side of the space through crowns. Bridges are permanent, so they offer better stability and lasting results than dentures. DENTAL IMPLANTS One of the most popular smile restoration options, dental implants is a permanent replacement for missing teeth. They are small titanium posts that replace the tooth’s root. After the implant is placed, it will need a few months to heal before the restoration can be added. After the healing period, an abutment and dental crown are placed on top of the implant. The result is a natural-looking, beautiful, and functional smile.  Visit Millpond Family Dental at 3490 Kildaire Farm Rd STE. 170, Cary, NC 27518, or call (984) 465-1544 for the best dental care personalized to your specific needs.

    Dental implants

Dental implants are permanent replacement tooth roots that are made from titanium. The implant acts as an anchor for the replacement tooth, holding the new tooth firmly in place. At Millpond Family Dental, dental implants are placed as a preferred permanent solution that can last for a lifetime with proper care. They are a particularly excellent option for patients who have lost a tooth due to an injury or periodontal disease. Unlike bridges or dentures, dental implants look and function like natural teeth, so patients can smile, talk, and eat with confidence. Dental implants are a key part of our practice and as such we have invested in the latest technology and equipment to safely and easily place and restore dental implants.  FAQS HOW DO DENTAL IMPLANTS WORK? Dental implant posts work as artificial tooth roots. This metal post is placed directly into the jawbone, where it fuses with your bone. This forms a strong foundation for a replacement tooth, which will be placed on top of the metal post. In this way, implants not only help restore your ability to eat and speak, they also prevent jawbone deterioration that commonly occurs after tooth loss.  IS THIS A PAINFUL PROCEDURE? In most cases placing a dental implant is actually much more straighforward than removing the tooth in the first place. In addition since there are not nerve endings in bone and there is no hole left after the implant placement, most patient only feel minor soreness for a few days post placement. DO I HAVE TO GO TO A SURGEON? No. At Millpond Family Dental our team has completed extensive training in advanced implant procedures, and has all of the expertise and equipment to place and restore your implant right here in our office. WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE A DENTURE AND WANT IMPLANTS? In many cases as long as there is still adequate bone we can place dental implants and attach a detnure to these implants. This provides a stable foundation for your denture and eliminates the need for creams or adhesives to hold your denture in place. In some cases we can even attach your existing denture to the new implants! Visit Millpond Family Dental at 3490 Kildaire Farm Rd. STE. 170, Cary, NC 27518, or call Dentist Cary, NC at (984) 465-1544 to find out how dental implants are an excellent choice for you.
