FAQs

When Is a Smile Restoration Recommended?

Smiles can be restored for several reasons. Some patients need to replace old, worn-down restorations while others may have had trauma to the tooth, such as from a sports injury or car accident. Still others may feel like they’ve lost part of their smile, such as when one or more teeth have been extracted.

Do you use silver fillings?

At Millpond Family Dental we do not use any of the older stye alamgam metal fillings. All of our fillings are tooth colored BPA free composite resins. We are fully equipped with all EPA certified amalgam seperation systems and high volume evacuation to safely removed older amalgam fillings when necessary.

What are some types of restorations?

Dental Veneers

When the appearance of your smile is hurting your confidence, there are some cosmetic treatments that can help you regain that confidence. One common treatment used for smile restoration is dental veneers. Veneers are discreet shells that fit over your existing teeth. They are custom-made for each patient, which makes them comfortable. Dental veneers are bonded to the front of the teeth. They are great for hiding discolored, stained, or crooked teeth. The veneers are colored to match the rest of the teeth and create a uniform appearance. The veneers are also stain-resistant, so you won’t have to worry about them becoming discolored over time.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a cost-effective and simple procedure. This common dental procedure is ideal for repairing small chips, cracks, or teeth that have slight staining. Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored resin material to repair the tooth. We will place the resin material on the tooth, mold it to the desired shape, and harden it with a special curing light. Once the bonding is set, your dentist will further shape it, if needed, so it blends in with the rest of your smile.

Dental Crowns

If your teeth have become discolored, cracked, or chipped, or you have a tooth that is too short or too long, you could benefit from a dental crown. Dental crowns are made to look like natural teeth as they cover the whole problematic tooth, so no one will be able to tell that you have one.

Dental Bridges

If you are missing several teeth, you may not be able to get dental implants because you might not have enough healthy bone mass to support implants. Instead, a dental bridge could be recommended. A bridge is a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) that is fixed in place by anchoring it to the teeth on either side of the space through crowns. Bridges are permanent, so they offer better stability and lasting results than dentures.

Dental Implants

One of the most popular smile restoration options, dental implants is a permanent replacement for missing teeth. They are small titanium posts that replace the tooth’s root. After the implant is placed, it will need a few months to heal before the restoration can be added. After the healing period, an abutment and dental crown are placed on top of the implant. The result is a natural-looking, beautiful, and functional smile.
